Work Stress and Pressure
Work stress is a growing problem around the world that affects not only the health and well-being of employees, but also the productivity of organisations. Work-related stress arises where work demands of various types and combinations exceed the person’s capacity and capability to cope. Work-related stress is one of the most common causes of stress and is the second most common compensated illness/injury in Australia, after musculoskeletal disorders.
Work stress can be caused by various events. For example, a person might feel under pressure if the demands of their job (such as hours or responsibilities) are greater than they can comfortably manage. Other sources of work-related stress include conflict with co-workers or bosses, constant change, and threats to job security, such as potential redundancy.
In Australia, more than $150 million was paid in benefits to workers who had made claims related to workplace stress during the 2014/2015 tax year. According to the National Health and Safety Commission, work-related stress accounts for the longest stretches of absenteeism.
What one person may perceive as stressful, however, another may view as challenging. Whether a person experiences work-related stress depends on the job, the person’s psychological make-up, and other factors (such as personal life and general health).
Work related stress can be a serious factor in causing and maintaining your Headaches, Neck Pain and Back Pain.
Stress could be a major factor in your pain
Stress is now considered a modern-day epidemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Lack of understanding is the primary cause of today’s stress epidemic. Most people believe that the thinking part of the mind rules the body but it is the emotional part that determines how well or how ill we feel.
Stress begins when a feeling like tension, irritation or worry escalates into stronger emotions like frustration, anxiety and anger. Finally we end up overloaded, exhausted – in a word, stressed.
Stress manifests itself in poor thought patterns, negative attitudes and feeling out of control. This overload is often the underlying cause of physical pain. Stress can aggravate existing conditions like neck pain, back pain and headaches and make them much worse.
At Mind and Body Chiropractic we understand the interplay of stress (Mind) with pain patterns (Body) and have developed treatment systems using the most modern approaches of Chiropractic and Psychology to heal your pain.
We Have Ways to Make it Better
The first thing we do: create a profile of you and your state of health. We combine a good old-fashioned personal approach with the very latest in technology, research and treatment.
The general information we gather about you includes your postural analysis, spine temperature, muscle tension and stress level bio-feedback. This information is fed into a computer program that gives us a precise picture: the exact nature of your condition, its probable causes and what we can do to make it better.
You will then be invited into one of our Relaxation Rooms where you will be treated to a session in a computerised massage chair that can be set up for your particular requirements. We can be playing relaxation music, we can be using a biofeedback program or a hypnosis program, we can show visual imagery. The result: you are deeply relaxed and ready for treatment.
Through a variety of treatments and lifestyle choices we can help you restore your health and sense of wellbeing.
