Cervicogenic headaches happen when the muscles and joints in your neck do not function correctly. This can result in inflammation, muscle tension, and pain that radiates from the base of your skull to the top of your head and occasionally over your eyes. Seek immediate medical attention if you have a progressively more severe headache that include, dizziness, slurred speech, or numbness or weakness in your arms or face.
Since cervicogenic headaches result from a mechanical problem, medications are often ineffective. Fortunately, our clinic has several tools to help solve this problem. To help resolve cervicogenic headaches, it is important to maintain good posture and take breaks from activities that strain your neck, like sitting in one place for too long or carrying heavy objects. And since dehydration can aggravate this problem, it is also important to drink enough water. Light activity, like walking, can help reduce neck pain and improve overall health.
