- Are you having trouble lifting your arm above 45-90 degrees because of pain in your shoulder?
- Is it interfering with your sleep because you can’t lie on that side?
- Is this pain restricting your movements and making it difficult for you to lift and carry things and perform simple tasks?
If the answer to these questions is yes, I have one further question for you: are you suffering needlessly? And the answer is: yes, you are!
If you go to the doctor with this condition, you’re likely to be told that it is “rotator cuff syndrome”. You will probably be put on anti-inflammatory drugs. You may well be advised to seek physiotherapy and in extreme cases, you might be looking at surgery. What you might not be told is that the majority of shoulder problems respond very well to chiropractic treatment.
Come to my practice and the first thing we can do is establish exactly what the problem is. A simple test enables me to determine whether the problem is a ruptured tendon. If so, you will be immediately referred for appropriate medical attention. However, nine times out of ten, problems with the shoulder are caused by tendons being out of place.
When patients come to me with a sore shoulder, the first thing I ask is: “What were you reaching for in the back of the car?” Because this is the most common cause of this condition. You’re stopped at a light, you grab your bag or your briefcase from the back seat and that’s all it takes. The tendons, that allow us to lift our arms forward, sideways and backwards, are required to be in the right position in relation to the rest of the shoulder. The tendons that hold the shoulder in place, particularly the supraspinatus tendon and the long head of the biceps tendon, can come out of their ‘groove’.
When this problem arises, because of an intrinsic weakness in the joint, your brain has a natural tendency to limit the use of the shoulder. So what you’ve got is a positional problem with the tendons, which have often been treated poorly with other methodologies, when a correction can be easily achieved.
What a lot of people suffering from this condition tend to do is simply live with the problem and work around the limitations. I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to put up with a sore shoulder any longer. More often than not, the tendons are intact. They are just in the wrong position and so the shoulder remains lame. This is, in essence, a particularly simple condition to correct yet many people suffer from it.
The good news is that sore shoulders respond to treatment almost immediately to chiropractic adjustment, frequently from the very first treatment, although you may need a series of treatments to stabilize the condition. So get in touch with us today to see how we can help relieve your shoulder pain.
